The feeling under the reaction
Husband Rebuild · 6d ago
Anger, shutdown, and defensiveness are usually the top layer. Underneath them is something softer and more honest: feeling not good enough, feeling shut out, feeling like you are failing at the one thing you most want to get right. The loop tends to loosen when you can name the softer feeling instead of only showing the protective one. Not as a performance, and not to get a reaction, but because naming it accurately changes how you carry it. Think about your last hard moment. What was the reaction you showed, and what was the quieter feeling under it? Post both. You do not have to share the soft feeling with your partner yet. The first job is being able to see it clearly yourself.
