Official Guide: Post the cycle, not the courtroom defense

This is an official post from the Husband Rebuild Team. A courtroom defense reads like this: here is the timeline, here is the evidence, here is why my reaction was justified. It feels productive because it is organized. It rarely changes anything, because it is built to win an argument, and winning the argument is not the same as changing the loop. A cycle post reads differently. It names the trigger, the move you made to protect yourself, the move that tends to follow on her side, and where it spins back around. You are not diagnosing her. You are mapping the pattern the two of you fall into, so you can step out of your part of it on purpose next time. Try this shape: "When X happened, I did Y to protect myself. That usually leads to Z between us. The part I want to change is my Y." That last sentence is the whole point. You are here to change your move, not to be declared right. If you only have the defense version so far, post it anyway and we will help you translate it into the cycle version. That translation is a skill, and it gets faster with reps.
