The reassurance chase: why asking 'are we okay?' backfires

Husband Rebuild · 6d ago

When things feel shaky, the urge is to ask for reassurance over and over. Are we okay, do you still love me, are you sure. Each ask feels small. Together they become a weight that the other person has to keep lifting, and that weight slowly becomes its own problem. The chase usually comes from a real and understandable fear. The issue is the delivery: repeated reassurance-seeking puts your stability in her hands and asks her to hold your anxiety on top of her own. Over time that pushes people away rather than closer. Notice your reassurance asks this week and post the count, without judging yourself harshly. Then pick one to handle differently: soothe it yourself, write it here instead of texting her, or sit with it for an hour. Tell us which one you tried.
